FMA 010: Jonas Kakoschke & Stephan Oesterreicher (Kafvka)

Jonas Kakoschke & Stephan Oesterreicher (Kafvka)
When I ran into KAFVKA I had no idea that they would actually play that night because the promoter did not announce a supporting act for the headliner before the show. Doubtlessly, I was positively surprised and overwhelmed.

One of their first songs (“Scheiss auf Koks”) features a verse that got stuck to my mind the second when I heard it for the first time back in 2013:

„Groß in der Kleinstadt / klein in der Großstadt”

(“Big in small-town / small in big-town“).

On interview-day their debut LP “Hände hoch” was officially released through Wolfpack Entertainment.

After we shot the video I told Jonas that I always introduce KAFVKA as “KAFVKA with F like Franz and V like Markus” to new people. He smiled. It turned out to be just the exact same way the band introduces itself.

Further, I explained to him that the aforementioned line “Groß in der Löeinstadt / klein in der Großstadt” had a special meaning to me at the end of 2015 since I once was left behind by someone ‘small’ who decided to go for the big money in KAFVKA’s hometown.

Jonas is also engaged in Flüchtlinge willkommen (“Refugees welcome”), an initiative that imparts private housing space (e.g. flat-sharing communities) to refugees. Please get in touch with them if you should have a room available!

FMA 009: Jay Scott (Lionheart)

Jay Scott (Lionheart)
I caught LIONHEART on their first, only and unfortunately last European headlining tour.

Actually I was assured to do the interview with Rob, LIONHEART’s vocalist, but as I explained the project to the tattooed guy at their merch he DEFINTELY wanted to do it as well since he felt he had a lot to say about this topic. I could really feel Jay’s motivation right away.

After their set Rob wasn’t quiet up for it anymore.
During Load-In I waited and waited and waited… Saw guys packing up the gear and asked Jay several times if it was still gonna happen. He always affirmed as he kept whistling and joking around. Once he finished packing up his drum set we finally found time to go to the backstage room of LIONHEART.

I’m awfully happy, glad and grateful to had caught them before they announced their break up a couple of weeks ago.

Go and catch them on one of their last European shows ever! Don’t miss your chance to hear “LHHC” one last time which, to me, remains one of the best songs that has been released in this genre in the last decade.

FMA 008: Felix Schaffernicht & Kosta Conidas (Eyesolate)

Felix Schaffernicht & Kosta Conidas (Eyesolate)
I had known EYESOLATE only through some past Facebook-event invitations.

I grasped the chance to talk to Felix and Kosta, what we had arranged a couple of days before the show, the night my former band/project played its first local show. That way I could check off two musts: interview EYESOLATE & watch my former band finally play live.

EYESOLATE filled the headliner slot that night and after their set, as they packed up their gear, I reminded them of my attendance.

That time the most intriguing situations occurred after the interview:

- Kosta told me that he works in a restaurant which is located right next to where I live.

- Furthermore, they offered to drive me home despite it was a diversion for them. I accepted gratefully.

- They gave me one of their shirts for free.

Nice moves. Nice guys.

FMA 007: Corey Ben Yehuda & Nadav Rotem (Kids Insane)

Corey Ben Yehuda & Nadav Rotem (Kids Insane)
I caught KIDS INSANE on their 2016 spring tour with DEFEATER and BREAK EVEN. I was pretty close to get the latter two bands to join in, as well. But due to obvious and sincere arguments as well as a simple misunderstanding I did not work out that night.

Luckily, KIDS INSANE agreed weeks before the show to join FMA.

It’s the only band from Israel I interviewed during this project. Further it’s the only Israeli band I know beside USELESS ID.
Despite the fact that just very few bands make it out of this country and receive the opportunity to play more international stages and tours there is a vivid and blooming Israeli scene as portrayed in articles and even critically acclaimed documentaries.

On that night I also met Josie of Holding.The.Moment. She moved here to study photography. We chatted about past shows at JuHa Roßwein and Chemnitz. It’s crazy to see where photography and passion took her within the scene. Nothing but positive envy and respect!

FMA 006: Kris & Jay (Harm/Shelter)

Before I saw HARM/SHELTER for the first time at CARRY THE DEADs record release show in 2013 I had straight up liked their logo which is, if you ask me, one of the coolest band logos ever.

Long before the show should start HARM/SHELTER shot passages for their “Eternal crusade”-video which was partially shot by Moritz of MoLuxImago. “Eternal crusade” is featured on their current record “Paycheck”.

Kris & Jay (Harm/Shelter)
As I explained the topic of this project to the band Jay mentioned that he is also involved in a rap project.  I offered him to talk about that instead but he considered it as ‘way too underground’ for they haven’t really released much. So he liked to keep it underground and preferred to talk about HARM/SHELTER as his main outlet and effort.
We had to stop the first attempt of shooting due to a group of elderly people leaving a restaurant behind us as loudly and noisy as possible what saddened Jay a bit since he thought he dropped very well into the first seconds of the video. He even tried to remember what he said before the next try. Don’t worry Jay, you did just as fine.

Two months later I ran into HARM/SHELTER and Jay again. He remembered who I was. I still can’t believe that anyone actually keeps me and FMA in their minds. Well, I guess I’m just a humble and grateful person.

Jay’s side project is called WORTSCHATZPROJEKT.
